About Us The Blackdown hills have many hundreds of acres of mixed woodland that have been a valuable resource for people living in the area since early man set foot here thousands of years ago. There are many craftsmen living within and around the surrounding areas of the Blackdowns who depend on locally produced timbers for their living. A multitude of uses have been found for the timber in this time ranging from the building of houses and barns, carts, furniture and cabi¬net making etc. One of the most important uses would have been as a fuel for heating and cooking. The woods would have been coppiced and the trees pollarded to produce timber by a sustainable means. "I think the marketing of local woodland timber and it's products is the best way to maximize the blackdown woodland resources. Together with an interactive website the BHWA is a great help to producers and woodland owners alike."
